Frank Sinatra could have saved Marilyn Monroe's life - but he threw her out of his home less than two weeks (weekend of July 28th) before she died amid fears she'd pass away in his company, according to a new biography. The Rat Pack star enjoyed an on/off romance with the Some Like It Hot actress until she died from an overdose of barbiturates in 1962. Leading up to the tragedy, Monroe suffered a number of personal problems and illness - but her passing could have been prevented if Sinatra had intervened after she collapsed at his Cal-Neva Lodge resort in Nevada days before her death. The Hollywood icon invited Monroe to stay with him at the venue, along with actor Peter Lawford and his wife Pat. But the holiday turned sour when the fragile-looking actress started taking vitamin shots in front of the other guests, only to later breakdown in her room.
Instead of helping out, Sinatra ordered Monroe to be removed from his estate, according to new book, The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe.
A security guard for Sinatra's Cal-Neva Lodge tells author J. Randy Taraborrelli, "She opened her purse and pulled out those syringes. I was standing right there with Mr Sinatra and Pat Lawford. Marilyn was very casual about it. She was looking for something else and just pulled them out and put them on the table... Then - and I had never seen anything like this before - she put a small hole at the end of the capsule, and swallowed it. 'Gets into your bloodstream faster that way,' she said."
Valet George Jacobs adds, "Frank Sinatra didn't know what to think about any of it. He was upset, though. He loved Marilyn, yes. But for her to maybe die at Cal-Neva while he was there? That would have been terrible. So he said: 'Get her out of here and get her out of here now.' And that was it. We had to do what he said. I mean, the woman was sick. But as compassionate as Sinatra was, he had a line and she crossed it."
This picture of Marilyn Monroe and pianist Buddy Greco were taken at the Cal-Neva Resort in Nevada in the summer of 1962, just five days before her death from a barbiturates overdose on August 5. They were part of a set of 36 photos taken of Monroe and others at the resort that summer. But only six remain - the other 30 were stored in a safe-deposit box at the World Trade Center and were destroyed in the 9/11 attacks.
Recently her Some Like Hot co-star Tony Curtis opened up about Marilyn's pregnancy/abortion.Curtis is set to shock fans with a new book insisting she was carrying his child following their steamy affair while filming Some Like It Hot. In his new memoir The Making of 'Some Like It Hot', the actor describes his liasons with the blond bombshell in explicit detail, and even claims the baby she conceived during their 1958 affair was his. Curtis goes on to recall the day the star announced her pregnancy in October 1958 during a heated exchange with her playwright husband Arthur Miller, who refused to believe the baby was Curtis' child. And although Curtis' then-wife Janet Leigh was also pregnant with their second daughter, Jamie Lee, the 84 year old insists Monroe was intent on mothering the child she eventually miscarried.
The actor also reveals their first tryst actually came in 1950, when Monroe was first launching her career - and he insists he'll never forget their romps.
He writes, "When I was in bed with Marilyn, I was never sure, before, during or after, where her mind was. She was an actress. She could play a part. She could give the part what she thought a man wanted. I never asked for more. What I experienced with her was unforgettable.”
Curtis' book is set for release on September 28, 2009.
Jack Nicolson's The Shining co-star Shelley Duvall has been exposed as an alien-obsessed crazy lady in a tabloid expose. The actress, who also starred opposite Robin Williams in Popeye, has friends and neighbours in Blano, Texas worried because she spends night after night patrolling her backyard, convinced her home is a portal for little green men.
One local tells The Globe, "Shelley is such a tragic soul. I feel terrible for her and wish someone could step in and do something. She desperately needs help."
Blano residents tell the tabloid that 60-year-old Duvall, who hasn't acted since 2002, flashes her car lights in a bid to communicate with extra-terrestrials and "wanders around town... looking disheveled, strange and totally crazy."
Another local says, "She mutters to herself and talks about aliens living in her body."
And a local hardware supplier adds, "One time she came in and asked for dirt and boards to block up a hole in her backyard because, she said, 'That's a portal into another dimension. That's where the aliens are coming in.'"
Ludacris wants to end the debate over who's the world's greatest rapper - he's convinced it's him. Jay-Z is often hailed the best in the business, while others suggest Eminem and late legends Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur have a claim to the title - but Ludacris insists his last album Undisputed proves he's in a league of his own. The star - real name Chris Bridges - says, "Rap is real competitive just the same way boxing is. We always talk about taking other rappers out. That being said, I feel like I'm the best rapper. I wanted to get the best boxer in the game for my last album. That's why it's called Undisputed."
The Resident Evil star's dad, Bogdan 'Bogich' Bogdanavich, was sent to prison for a health insurance fraud when the actress was a teenager. Jovovich grew closer to him when she visited him in jail, but his "playboy" nature made her wary of dating similar men. The star, who is set to wed her filmmaker partner Paul W.S. Anderson later this month, says, "My father, Bogich, was arrested and sent to prison when I was 15. He was a doctor and jailed for eight years for a health insurance fraud. Unfortunately he trusted the wrong people and they left him to rot. In the end he made a deal to get out, but the charges were never dropped.
"It's still hard for my dad because he never felt vindicated. It was the most traumatic thing that had happened to me. I visited him a lot and we became closer as a result.
"My dad was a playboy, so I've made sure I stay away from bad boys. In the end I went for a man who could take care of me and my family. Paul is an incredible dad to our daughter, Ever - he's not crazy or wild. What could be better? I have a talented, handsome, successful husband who adores me."
Jovovich and Anderson have a 20-month-old daughter, Ever.
The King of Pop graces the new issue of Make-Up Artist magazine - as the Super Ghoul of make-up specialist Stan Winston's film, as part of an article featuring those who applied make-up to Jacko, and helped him create disguises for shopping trips. Richie Alonzo, who created Jackson's Mayor look for Ghosts, recalls the pop star insisting on visiting a local Toys 'R' Us store in costume.
Alonzo says, "He had a suit to change his form a bit, and prosthetic hands and full head and wig."
And make-up experts Michael Westmore and Steve Johnson have revealed they worked on elaborate disguises specifically for Jacko's shopping trips.
Johnson tells the publication, "I did two disguises for him at the time we were designing his robotic transformation for the Smooth Criminal video, around 1987. "He was not comfortable with me taking pictures of him in the finished make-up... He had a lot of fun running rampant in public, with him totally unrecognizable."
And Westmore, who had helped to create disguises for government officials, admits he was called in to create "a variety of prosthetic noses and dentures" for Jackson.
