Nicole Kidman wanted to stay married to Tom Cruise forever.
The ‘Cold Mountain’ star married Tom in 1990 and the ‘Top Gun’ star left her
just before their tenth wedding anniversary, although they remained husband
until 2001.
Nicole, 39, told Vogue magazine: “Honestly, I would have stayed married for
the rest of my life. It’s not like I regret who I was in that marriage, I
don’t at all. It was eleven years of my life. It wasn’t 50 years, it turned
out to be 11.
“You get the advice, ‘Don’t get married when you’re 22’, and you just think,
‘They don’t know what they’re talking about!’ But now I look back and think,
‘Oh, there’s probably some truth to that.’”
The Australian actress was pregnant when Tom left her, and she suffered a
miscarriage shortly afterwards. Their marriage was dissolved for undisclosed
reasons in 2001.
Nicole also spoke about meeting her current husband Keith Urban, who she
married this summer.
She said: “I was very wary, and damaged. It wasn’t that I’d give up hope, I
was, just, asleep. But now I feel like I’ve woken up again. Rather than
living through characters, I’ve learned to be myself.”
Recovering alcoholic Keith checked into rehab last month after falling off
the wagon while Nicole was away filming ‘His Dark Materials’. The actress
flew home to Nashville to be with her husband.
