Joaquin Phoenix Escapes Injury from Car Crash
'Gladiator' hunk Joaquin Phoenix narrowly escaped seriously injury after being involved in a car crash.The actor's vehicle overturned on a canyon road and collided with another after his brakes went out.
His publicist, Susan Patricola, said:
"Joaquin was wearing his seat belt and walked away from the scene after being helped out of his vehicle by a passer-by."
Police believe the 31-year-old star was driving near Hollywood's Sunset Strip when he realized his brakes were not working.
Officers revealed that Phoenix lost control of his car, before it overturned and hit another heading in the same direction.
Earlier this month, the 'Walk The Line' actor won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for portraying country legend Johnny Cash.
Phoenix has also been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award, which will be handed out Sunday (1.29.06)
The actor's agent told America's Us Weekly magazine that he attend the awards ceremony despite the car accident.

George Clooney is being hotly-tipped to play Magnum PI in a new movie.Film bosses believe the handsome star would be perfect as the suave private investigator, played by Tom Selleck in the classic TV show.
A source is quoted in Britain's Daily Star newspaper as saying:
"He is a big fan of the original series. The part is his if he wants it."
Meanwhile, George - who split from on/off girlfriend Lisa Snowdon last year - recently revealed he thinks 2006 will be the year he settles down.
The 44-year-old heartthrob - renowned for keeping his romantic life under wraps - said:
"I want to be married with six kids this year. I want six little sextuplets around."
The star also admitted he believes in love at first site, saying:
"It happened to my parents. My dad asked my mum on a date and asked her to marry him immediately.
"They're still together so I know love at first sight can work."
