Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe: Over

Reese Witherspoon has formally separated from husband Ryan Phillippe after seven years of marriage, it was announced yesterday (10.30.06).

The Oscar-winning actress and her actor spouse recently sparked rumours of a rift after they were seen attending public engagements separately.

In a statement, Reese's publicist, Nanci Ryder, said: "We are saddened to announce that Reese and Ryan have decided to formally separate.

"They remain committed to their family, and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time."

Divorce papers have not yet been filed but the 30-year-old actress is reported to have contacted celebrity divorce lawyer Robert Kaufman, who has represented Jennifer Aniston, Roseanne Barr and Lisa Marie Presley.

According to Dlisted via Lainey Gossip Ryan had an affair with a waitress in Vancouver, Canada while filming one of his movies.

Reese met Ryan at her 21st birthday party and the couple have two children together, seven-year-old daughter Ava and three-year-old son Deacon.

The couple starred as lovers in cult teen movie ‘Cruel Intentions’. Reese achieved box office success in the ‘Legally Blonde’ films before winning an Oscar this year for her performance in the Johnny Cash biopic ‘Walk The Line’.

Last year, Reese appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s chat show to defend the couple’s decision to visit a marriage counsellor.

She said at the time: "We've done that in the past, and it's always struck me as odd that people grabbed on to that story and made it sound so negative. Nobody's perfect. We all have our own set of problems."

Ryan, 32, is currently starring in Clint Eastwood’s World War II drama ‘Flags of Our Fathers’.

Reese Witherspoon claims singing in new movie 'Walk The Line' was more terrifying than childbirth.

The Golden Globe-winning actress said she didn't realise director James Mangold expected her to stretch her pipes for her role as June Carter Cash in the critically acclaimed Johnny Cash biopic until she'd already signed up.

She told Britain's Arts and Books Review magazine:

"I just assumed we were using their music and then he said, 'Oh no, you're going to be learning to sing.'

"You should've heard me in the beginning - it was really bad. I was like, 'I can't do this.'

"Singing in front of thousands of people made me as nervous as thinking about childbirth."

Reese Witherspoon claims to be addicted to surfing the internet because she is concerned what others are commenting about her.

She says, "Sometimes I go onto the internet really late at night and find out what people really think of me - and it hurts my feelings. 'She looks weird. I hate her movies. She stinks.'

"It makes you feel terrible. But people are entitled to their opinions."

Well, if it matters to you Reese I don't think you stink. What you said about Jessica Simpson just happens to be the name of the game unfortunately. Sex sells, but just stick to your guns and don't change or do something just for the sake of selling. if it makes you feel any better The Dukes of Hazzard had some of the worst reviews of the year and Jessica Simpson's acting was nothing to write home about.
