Charlize Theron thinks celebrities who love being in the media spotlight are"ugly."
The 'Monster' actress has no desire to be photographed at star-studded
parties and does not understand why some of her peers bow to public
pressure.
She said: "It comes across as this really sad need for approval. I've heard
people make comments like, 'You don't really want to be in the tabloids but
you need to be for your career.' They believe it's actually important. It's
not. It's ugly.
"People say, 'That's your job.' It really isn't, actually. It's not my job
to go out there and make an a*s out of myself."

The star also argued against the idea that celebrities should give up their
right to privacy in exchange for money and fame.
She added to GQ magazine: "Like, your life belongs to us now? That's the
deal? I didn't get that memo. It wasn't sent to me and I didn't sign it. So,
f**k you."
Charlize Theron Loves Playing Ugly
Charlize Theron loves playing ugly characters.
The South African actress - who donned prosthetics to win an Oscar for her
portrayal of prostitute Aileen Wuornos in 'Monster' in 2004 - thinks looking
beautiful on the big screen is not important.
She said: "At the end of the day it isn't about what I physically look like
- it comes back to storytelling. If I can find a good story it's all that
matters. I don't judge a character on what I physically look like.
"I really don't care about appearance - it's so secondary to everything else
that's important in life."
Charlize - who was voted the Sexiest Woman Alive by readers of Esquire
magazine last year - also had to play down her beauty for her latest role in
'Sleepwalking'.
The film sees her star as negligent mother Joleen, who abandons her daughter
after struggling to come to terms with the abuse she suffered as a child.
'Sleepwalking', which also stars Dennis Hopper and Woody Harrelson, is due
in cinemas later this month.

Charlize Theron Might Play Anna Nicole Smith
Charlize Theron has been tipped to play Anna Nicole Smith in a film abouther life.
The actress is movie bosses' first choice to star as the Playboy Playmate
who married an 89-year-old oil billionaire and died aged just 39 last week.
A source revealed: "You couldn't make up a life story like Anna's. Studios
are falling over themselves to pay tribute to an incredible woman. There are
a number of actresses earmarked to play Anna, with Charlize the favorite."
This won't be the first time the 31-year-old South African has played a
controversial real-life character.
Charlize won an Oscar in 2004 for her portrayal of US serial killer Aileen
Wuornos in 'Monster'.
Anna Nicole died last Thursday (02.08.07), after being found unconscious in
Hollywood's Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
Her death came during a time of personal grief - her 20-year-old son Daniel
died five months ago - and in the middle of a bitter paternity battle over
her daughter Dannielynn.
After a failed teenage marriage she moved to Houston to become a stripper
and met elderly oil billionaire J. Howard Marshall.
Anna Nicole, 26, married Marshall, 89, in 1994, but he died the following
year. She spent the next decade battling his family for his estate.
She got her big break in 1991 when Playboy boss Hugh Hefner chose her to
appear on the magazine cover.
Charlize Theron Will Get You Drunk
Charlize Theron has revealed she used to have to get directors drunk to getfilms roles.
The Oscar-winning actress is now an established Hollywood star, but when she
fist moved to Los Angeles she insists many people were reluctant to hire
her.
Theron claims she only got her role in 'The Yards' alongside Mark Wahlberg
and Joaquin Phoenix because she softened-up director James Gray over a few
drinks.
She said: "I got him drunk - that's when my manipulation really works well."
Meanwhile, Theron has confessed that some of her films are so bad she has
felt suicidal after finishing them.
The 31-year-old star won the 2004 Best Actress Oscar for her gripping
portrayal of serial-killer Aileen Wuornos in 'Monster'.
Although the South African star had a good feeling the movie, directed by
Patty Jenkins, would be a success, she admits she has often chosen bad
projects and felt the consequences.
She said: "There was nothing Patty had done to convince me she was a good
director. I just had a feeling. But I have been wrong before. Very wrong.
I've been in situations when I've said to myself, 'Can I have a rope please?
Or some blades?'"
