Kate Winslet Sues Daily Mail For $225,000

Oscar winner Kate Winslet is suing a British newspaper over an article which suggested she was 'The World's Most Irritating Actress'.

The star is seeking $225,000 (GBP150,000) from the Daily Mail after writer Liz Jones called her vain and accused her of lying about her fitness habits.

In an January 2009 article, under the headline 'Should Kate Winslet Win an Oscar for the World's Most Irritating Actress?' Jones wrote, "She caught a nasty dose of Hollywooditis. It happens to the best of them, of course it does. It is the duplicitousness that enrages me and most other women I have spoken to."

She also questioned a quote Winslet gave to Elle magazine, in which the actress said, "I don't go to the gym because I don't have time, but I do Pilates workout DVDs for 20 minutes or more every day at home."

In a lawsuit filed in London in April 2009, Winslet insists the article "injured her personal and professional reputation" and left her feeling "distressed and embarrassed".

The suit adds, "(Winslet) was particularly upset by what she regarded as the very unpleasant and nasty way in which the article was written." (WENN/IG/WNWCUO/KL)

Kate Winslet Bans Fashion Magazines

Kate Winslet has banned fashion magazines from her home – in case the thin
models influence her daughter.

The ‘Titanic’ star – who has previously spoken out against airbrushing
bodies in glossy magazine shoots to make stars appear thinner - fears her
six-year-old daughter Mia will become obsessed with the “disturbing” skinny
trend and develop an unhealthy body image.

She told BBC’s ‘Sunday AM’ show: “It is unbelievably disturbing what’s going
on at the moment. Young girls are impressionable. What I resent is that
there is an image of perfection that is getting thinner and thinner.

"It’s only a matter of time before Mia becomes aware of it and that
frightens the life out of me.”

Kate says she refuses to shed weight because she doesn’t want to send out
the wrong message to her impressionable young fans.

She said: "I hope that in some small way I'm able to say 'I'm a normal
person, I'm doing all right, I've got a lovely husband and children and I
didn't lose weight to find those things, and those things are what should be
important'.

“They are trying to figure out who they are and they want to be loved. Its
truly upsetting to me.”

The 31-year-old is currently starring alongside Cameron Diaz, Jack Black and
Jude Law in festive romantic comedy ‘The Holiday’.
