Anna Kendrick Rocks The House 50/50

Actress Anna Kendrick at the premiere of her latest flick 50/50 at the Vue Cinema in Leicester Square during the London Film Festival October 13, 2011.

Huffington Post:

Kendrick plays Katherine, a 24-year-old psychotherapy graduate student who is charged with somehow comforting a terse, scared -- and three years her senior -- Adam. Hot on the role from the moment she read the script, Kendrick said she felt a certain empathy with Katherine from the start.

'[She] was such a mess. She was so vulnerable and terrified on the inside. I liked that a lot," Kendrick told The Huffington Post. "I felt like a lot of people didn't see that, and maybe that's because I projected some of that on to the character, I guess I'll never really know."

Convicted Austin Powers Actor Killed His Cellmate

image
CBS:

An actor who had a small part in the movie "Austin Powers" and was convicted in the gang rape of a California woman, is now suspected of murdering his cellmate at a California prison.

Officials say Joseph Son, 40, has been identified as a suspect in the death of an inmate at Wasco State Prison, reports CBS station KCBS. The 50-year-old inmate, who has not been publicly identified, was found dead in his cell on the evening of Oct. 10.

The victim had reportedly been serving a 2-year sentence at the time of his death.

Prison officials have not released the circumstances surrounding the murder, reports KCBS. A spokesman for the sheriff-coroner's office, Ray Pruitt, said an autopsy would likely be performed Wednesday.

Son was convicted in September of torture in connection with the 1990 Christmas Eve gang rape of a woman in Orange County.

Son, who played a shoe-throwing bad guy in the film "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery," was arrested in 2008 when his DNA was matched to the rape of a then 19-year-old woman who was abducted off the street by two men.

16 “Resident Evil” Actors Playing Zombies Rushed To Hospital

image

National Enquirer:

16 actors playing zombies in latest “Resident Evil” flick fell high from a platform in Toronto and were rushed to the hospital!

Police Constable Tony Vella said the actors had been filming a scene on a high wheeled platform. Suddenly, the platform shifted as they were going to another platform, leaving a gap through which the zombies fell.

Toronto emergency medical spokesman Peter Macintyre said the victims' makeup and costumes made it difficult at first for crews to assess injured.

"I (saw) the look on the first paramedic, saying 'Oh my God,'" Toronto emergency medical services Commander David Ralph said.

At 8 AM paramedics responded to the 911 call from Cinespace Film Studios to the twisted and torn living dead- thanks to special effects makeup.

"It did kind of catch us off guard when we walked in," Toronto Police Sgt. Andrew Gibson said responders quickly figured out which zombies were actually injured and which were in character.

Several vics suffered leg, back and arm injuries. Twelve were rushed to a local ER.

“Resident Evil” goddess Milla Jovovich was not on set at the time during the accident, her rep confirmed.

Netflix Nixes Qwikster

New York Times:

Abandoning a break-up plan it announced last month, Netflix said Monday morning that it had decided to keep its DVD-by-mail and online streaming services together under one name and one Web site.

The company admitted that it had moved too fast when it tried to spin-off the old-fashioned DVD service into a new company called Qwikster.

“We underestimated the appeal of the single Web site and a single service,” Steve Swasey, a Netflix spokesman, said in a telephone interview. He quickly added: “We greatly underestimated it.”

Mr. Swasey said that the Netflix chief executive Reed Hastings declined an interview request. But in a statement, Mr. Hastings said, “Consumers value the simplicity Netflix has always offered and we respect that. There is a difference between moving quickly — which Netflix has done very well for years — and moving too fast, which is what we did in this case.”

Mr. Swasey declined to comment on any involvement by the Netflix board in the decision to keep the two services together. Initial reaction to the Netflix announcement was largely positive, and the company’s stock rose about 6 percent in early trading.

In an analysts note, Ingrid Chung of Goldman Sachs credited Netflix management for “listening to its customers (finally) and working to fix its relationship with customers.”

Richard Greenfield, a media analyst for BTIG Capital, said in an e-mail message that Monday’s announcement was the “necessary reversal of a bad decision.”

“The key remaining question,” he said, “is why did they make the Qwikster decision in the first place?”

Netflix said it never actually separated the services or started Qwikster. But the Sept. 18 announcement that it intended to do so stoked anger among Netflix customers, some of whom were already incensed by a price hike to $16 from $10 for those who receive both DVDs and streaming. (That increase will remain in place.)

Netflix said that day that the separation would take effect in a few weeks. But tens of thousands spoke out against the plan on Netflix’s Web site and others, and Netflix stock slid sharply.
