The house made famous in the 'Nightmare On Elm Street' horror movies is up for sale.

The four bedroom home - which is actually on Genesee Avenue - is on the market for $1 million, according to Celebrity Week.

In the film franchise, supernatural psychopath Freddy Krueger massacred the teenage residents of Elm Street as they dreamt in revenge for their parents murdering him.

The 'Elm Street' movies made a household name out of a then-unknown actor called Johnny Depp - after he was discovered by the daughter of the film's director, Wes Craven.

He explained: "It was kind of like daughters' day at the office - she just happened to be there. We'd been casting for Elm Street, and the main character Nancy had this boyfriend Glenn.

"We were looking for the usual handsome young Hollywood kid coming up and all off a sudden in comes this guy, Johnny Depp."

He added: "He was pale, kind of feminine looking, with cigarette stains on his fingers and I almost cast someone else.

"But my daughter just looked at me and said 'Johnny Depp - he's heaven' and I just went 'okay!'"

Thats california for ya! It amazes me how these crazy people would pay so much money for a house that literly would sell for no more then $135,000 in my state.

A million dollars is a bit dreamy. And now that i look at it it looks much much smaller than i remember. I guess i can thank movie magic for making it seem like people were running through a mansion.

I know what you mean Agent Hollywood.  It looked huge onscreen!  It would kinda neat to own a peice of American culture, but not for that price!  Are those people smoking crack?!  Whoever buys that house for that price desrves a swift kick to the…  What a waste of money.

Oh, some idiot will buy it.  I would always think when going to bed in that house that someone was coming to kill me!!!  I detest horror movies.

I would totally buy that sh*t for 125,000, but a million? I would LOVE to own it because I’m a fan of the Nightmare series and Johnny Depp was in it (LOL), but that price is outright rediculous. Greedy bastards.

It’s interesting what some camera angles can do to a house or person. Truely movie magic. Arnold Schwarzenegger is actually a pretty average sized guy but looks ENORMOUS onscreen. Arnold walked right past me in the mall when I was a teenager on his way to buy some pants, lol. It was my first lesson in hollywood vs. reality:) The movie illusion was shattered…

I know it was all fictional but I would still be creeped out living and sleeping in that house. Now if Johnny really lived across the street I’d pay the million. hehe tongue laugh

No Haylie, it’s 1 mil because it’s in LA, near the Hollywood Hills.

My BF and I have been watching LA real estate prices the past year because we plan to move there and a 1000 sq ft home that is described as a “fixer” will sell for $500,000, before you put another $75K into making it livable! Housing costs are pretty insane out there. Ms. Sleepy’s right, this place would probably cost between $150K - 300K in most other parts of the country (except Chicago, NY, San Fran). Someone will buy it and renovate and sell it for 1.3 mil…
