Rap mogul Russell Simmons and his wife Kimora Lee Simmons are splitting, a rep for Kimora confirms to PEOPLE. An announcement is expected later today.

A spokesperson for Russell had no comment.

Russell, 48, and Kimora, 30, married in 1998 and have two daughters: Ming Lee Simmons, 6, and Aoki Lee Simmons, 3. Both girls model for Baby Phat Clothing, Kimora's offshoot of her husband's Phat Farm clothing line. People

Looks like the annoucement came sooner than expected as rumors of a split were revealed yesterday.

Man these hollywood breakups are no longer shocking and quite boring if you ask me. A shocker would be announcing that a couple actually lastest.

O, and I dont believe in this thing called “soul mate” . Seems like when you break up and move onto another person that you hit it off with, suddenly they were your REAL soulmate and so on. I dont believe that love lasts forever nowadays like it used to with my parents/grandparent’s time period.  Today marriage seems more like consumer buying; if it aint good enough return it and get a better, newer deal.

Why do ppl get married nowadays? It seems pointless to marry if you arent mature enough to work things the fuck out when times are hard. THe role of men and women have changed and so should the role of marriage. Know your partner WELL before marrying em. Just dont go the easy route , at least for the kids. I cant imagine how sad a child must feel knowing things wont be the way they used to after a divorce.

I love Kimora. She’s trashy classy and doesn’t apologize for her. She doesn’t apologize for her flashy ways because she remembers what it was like when she didn’t have anything and she doesn’t want to live like that again. And on top of that she’s freaking beautiful and there are always going to be haters.

But really though, I saw this divorce coming from a mile away. Kimora and Russell are not even remotely cute. They look more like father and daughter than man and wife and that’s gross. Kimora married him for money and my hats off to her. I’m sure he was cheating on her while they were married anyway cuz he seems like the kind of cat that would do that.

Anyway she was on the cover of Vibe Vixen and in the article she talked about how strong she and Rus were. So you knew that was a sign right there that things were coming to a close. LOL.

what about the vanity fair article last year where she was going on about “ill beat any bitch who touches my man”.  she seemed to be so contrived and so…i dont know…trashy and flashy in going on about how jealous she was about other women being near her husband.

I loved that VF article! So many women are like “I don’t worry about him, he won’t cheat”. Kimora knew he cheated on her before and wasn’t gonna act like it didn’t happen. Not only will she “beat a bitch’s ass” but probably Russell’s too. My guess is that she found out he was cheating again and said it was over. No muss, no fuss, just over.
