Mel Gibson says he is "ashamed" after allegedly making anti-Jewish remarks
after being arrested for drink-driving.
The 'Passion of the Christ' director was pulled over in Malibu for speeding
on the Pacific Coast Highway in the early hours of Friday (07.28.06).
After he was stopped, Gibson launched into a drunken tirade during which he
allegedly made anti-Semitic comments.
According to TMZ Gibson went off after L.A. County Sheriff's Deputy James Mee arrested the star.

The actor said in a statement: "After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I
did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and
said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable."
He added: "I am deeply ashamed of everything I said, and I apologise to
anyone who I have offended."
The 'Lethal Weapon' actor concluded: "I have battled the disease of
alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific
relapse."
However, not everyone is willing to accept the 50-year-old star's apology.
One US-based Jewish campaign group - The Anti-Defamation League - has issued
a damning statement, saying: "Mel Gibson's apology is unremorseful and
insufficient.
"His tirade finally reveals his true self and shows that his protestations
during the debate over his film, 'The Passion of the Christ', that he is
such a tolerant, loving person, were a sham."

Once inside the car, a source directly connected with the case says Gibson began banging himself against the seat. The report says Gibson told the deputy, "You mother f****r. I'm going to f*** you." The report also says "Gibson almost continually [sic] threatened me saying he 'owns Malibu' and will spend all of his money to 'get even' with me."
The report says Gibson then launched into a barrage of anti-Semitic statements: "F*****g Jews... The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." Gibson then asked the deputy, "Are you a Jew?"
The deputy became alarmed as Gibson's tirade escalated, and called ahead for a sergeant to meet them when they arrived at the station. When they arrived, a sergeant began videotaping Gibson, who noticed the camera and then said, "What the f*** do you think you're doing?"
A law enforcement source says Gibson then noticed another female sergeant and yelled, "What do you think you're looking at, sugar tits?"

Wow i am beyond shocked and discusted with him. Someone who says that about jewish people, im no fan of.
His comments were horrid but the man is having alcohol and drug problems. He’s probably bipolar too. He was probably thinking about the Israeli/Lebanon situation. He is not a hateful Nazi, I don’t think…NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE!!
I don’t think he deserves this bad press. Others in Hollywood have said worse anti-semitic things then this when sober.

Sounds like Mel’s busted out of AA for the moment. Not defending Mel, but the worst things come out of mouths that have been drinking - although his .12 breath test is just a little over the .o8 limit. Anyway, sounds like he made a real ass out of himself.

Wow, I am not surprised at all. The fact that he made a movie about Jesus, then bought himself an island with the profits rather than be a good person and invest in charity as we are to do to show appreciation to Christ’s horrible death, shows me that he either has to be incredibly stupid and hypocrytical, or just drunk. I guess he is just drunk. Now the truth comes out and it should not be a shock.

What he said was just downright out of context for what we’re use to of Mel but after all, he doesn’t beleive in the Holocost either. However, I’m thinking there are celebs out there that have done a lot worse stuff.
I don’t know if his dad was actually a Nazi, but he has publicly stated that he believes that the holocaust was “a work of fiction”. And while good ol’ Mel says he’s a traditional Roman Catholic, he actually is part of a small extremely strict sect that isn’t technically Roman Catholic (I can’t think of the name right now), but is closely related so everyone always just says he is. But don’t let that give you an excuse to hate the rest of us Roman Catholics - not all of us suck (just like any other religion!!)
now THAT is so good celbrity gossip! and i totally believe that b/c it very in character for rich and famous people to forget they are have to follow laws themselves b/c they are often given free passes. according to a radio station i heard today, mel has been pulled over several times in the last year for speeding on the CHP and has been let go every time with just a warning, so he probably figured he could drive however he wanted and nothing would happen.
