Angelina Jolie has sparked a race row by playing a mixed-race woman in her
latest film.

The Hollywood beauty has been cast as the widow of murdered US journalist
Daniel Pearl in 'A Mighty Heart' - which is being produced by Angelina's
partner Brad Pitt.

The casting decision has angered black campaign groups who are furious a
white woman has been chosen for the role.

One outraged person wrote on website blacklooks.org: "I had assumed the days
when white actors took on roles of black people had long passed."

Another wrote: "You can't tell me Halle Berry, Judy Reyes or other women of
African descent wouldn't have been a better choice."



Oscar winner Angelina plays French freelance reporter Mariane Pearl, who was
five months pregnant when her husband was kidnapped by Islamic extremists in
Pakistan in 2002. The Wall Street Journal reporter was later beheaded.

Despite the furore surrounding the film, the real-life Mariane, 39, is
pleased that Angelina will be playing her in the movie.

She said: "I'm delighted Angelina Jolie will be playing my role. I deeply
admire her work."

Oh please! While I think she’s nothing but a skanky whore I also think she’s got the complexion to play the part. I’ll never see the movie, I watch nothing she’s in, but these people can surely think of something else to bitch about.

Hmmm…while i can say that i don’t like angelina much, they made her sorta look like the woman. They should be worried about her playing the woman with her man veiny hands instead of her race. My question is this, if the pearle woman was mixed race, what makes them think that the “black” half of her race has to be portrayed? If the woman is white and black, then they have every right to pick a white person as well as black. Maybe the woman didn’t want halle berry to play her, it’s her right not theirs.

Well I can see their point. I mean there are so few roles for women of color as it is, a white woman putting on blackface seems wrong.
But she’s f*cking the producer, right?

That movie is going to bomb, anyway. Who wants to see that tragedy unfold on the big screen?

I think Marianne Pearl is half cuban.

I think Marianne and Angelina are both beautiful..and as I said before, thank your lucky stars Chinaston isn’t the one bringing this character to the big screen.  That would be like Chestica taking on the part.

But it’s not blackface, because Marianne Pearl is of mixed descent. 

I understand their point, but honestly… Angelina looks more like her than Halle Berry.  I’m not an Angelina fan, but I have to admit that, when her hair is done up in the ringlets and she’s made to look pregnant, there is a strong resemblance.

I get so sick of these people looking for something to complain about.  Turn the t.v. on and it’s mainly shows with blacks so it’s not like they’re being discriminated against at all. This isn’t 1845!

But I cannot stand Holie and they’re getting on my nerves too.  It’s like they don’t want to make a move without having their pubilist tell the press.  I don’t know if she’s trying to make sure to slap the fact that she was whorish enough to sleep with a married man, in the face of everyone, or if she’s just a total freak.  Probably both.

Right on, Agent Hollywood. I am sick of hearing that people of mixed race are “really” black. No, they are mixed race. Halle Berry is just as white as she is black, but no one bitches about her taking on black roles. The hypocrisy is suffocating.

The “Black Campaign Groups” should unite and make their own film. But, It would take a lot of time and effort away from “campaigning” and bitching about the irrelevant.

I think Jolie is perfect for this part; I think her mother is a mixture things anyway that’s why her lips are so big.

I don’t see Ms. Pearl as African anyway. She is of mixed race; but her culture is French-caucasion. Halle would be a horrible choice because her vibe is very much African America. This a new day and black women are getting white women roles too.

Hypocrisy defined “the false assumption of an appearance of virtue or religion”,  is not the word we are looking for.  The word is RACISM and it effects us all every frickin’ day. I am sure it affects the Halle Berry’s of the world a lot less since they have a hefty amount of green mixed in.

Have you been stuck between both worlds?  Let me tell you about my beloved niece, a mixed race teenager who feels no more accepted by blacks than whites.  She has been called bright, high yellow, oreo all insults from anyone who skin is darker than hers. And shunned by white kids. She doesn’t cry anymore (but I still do). She tried to explain it to me “whites only see black. And blacks, who feel skin color exempts them from racism, see many shades of black”. She has to explain it to me, an ADULT.

Halle Berry is also a shitty actress. I certainly wouldn’t pick her for any part.

I think Angie is a perfect choice for this crappy movie.  She looks like she’s mixed, and besides since this movie is going to flop terribly, I like the fact that it’s Angie and not Halle, that’s going to have to take all the crap for this.  So let Holie make a fool out of herself.  She’s perfect for this piece of shit movie.

She is accepted as both. If you are labeling her as black, then how is it hypocritical to call her both white and black? You are the one labeling her as black. She was raised by a single white mother. How are you going to tell her that she is not white?

Who cares about who’s playing who.  The whole premise of this movie sounds like a big bleeding-heart joke to me.  It’s not like Daniel Pearl was the first person/journalist to ever get killed in the line of duty.

I could be mistaken, but isn’t Halle Berry in the works to play a white woman? And let’s not forget Jessica Alba playing Sue Storm (not that I actually watched Fantastic Four).

I think racial boundaries are becoming a little bit more blurred these days. And I think they should. But race and racial matters will only cease to matter when people stop pointing out race itself. I’m not sure if that makes sense to anyone, its still very early in the morning at work for me.

I can’t stand Skankalina, but personally, I do not see the monumental huge deal in her playing this role. I mean, isn’t it called acting for a reason? This movie is about a wife losing her husband to violence. It is not a movie about race, so why make it about race? Almost everyone is “mixed” with a little bit of everything. I am not going to see the movie anyway. It was tragic enough hearing about this horrific tragedy on every news channel for day after day. I would not put myself through that emotional rollercoaster again no matter who is in the movie.

why dont the black campaign people spend their time on something more important than worrying about who is playing what role in a movie!!!!

The problem with this society is that social stratification can only exist on limited terms, hence, age, race/ethnicity and class. Unfortunetely we live in a society where race is the way of separating a group of people from another. This can only keep happening if we let it happen.  I’ve realized that, even though racism does exist, people that conform the minorities make it even worse. They will more often than not think that if someone is rude to them is because they’re black/hispanic/etc, when in reality, someone might be rude to them because they simply are a raging cunt. Playing the race card is so overrated, that the situation is just annoying.

If Angelina wants to play that woman, good for her, who fucking cares, the movie is going to be a flop. I’m sure they weren’t thinking “Oh, let Angelina play her, just so she can piss off minorities”. I’m pretty sure it was more like, “She can look the part, she’s famous and hot (which, I seriously don’t think is true, ew), and she’s fucking the producer”

just the other day Halle Berry was given the role of playing a white teacher who gave her students the assignments to make her famous…and they managed to almost get her elected to her state congress.

the production company said they felt it was more important to get an actress who could play the part well than someone who just looked like the women in real life.
