Sacha Baron Cohen is set to play Freddie Mercury in a movie about the Queen
singer's life, it has been reported.
The comic - who reportedly based his character Borat's look on the late
music legend - is said to be the front runner to play Freddie seeing off
stiff competition from Johnny Depp.

A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "Filmmakers are working flat
out to get the best possible script. Sacha loves the idea he can get away
with playing Freddie after modeling Borat's look on him."
The movie is being developed by Robert De Niro's company Tribeca
Productions.
Last month, it was reported that 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star Johnny was
in talks to play Freddie.

'Bohemian Rhapsody' singer Freddie - who passed away aged 45
from an AIDS-related illness in 1991 - was widely considered to be one of
the greatest performers in British rock history.
Sacha, 35 - who is best known for his comic alter-egos Ali G and Borat - is
currently working on Tim Burton's forthcoming movie 'Sweeney Todd'.

The BAFTA winner is engaged to Australian actress Isla Fisher, 31.
Isla has reportedly converted to Judaism so they can have a traditional
Jewish wedding.
I don’t understand all those women who converts to the religion of their husband to be. That is like changing a personality and it’s total submissiveness and if that girl did that, she should be ashamed of herself.
Not even talking about the guy, I can’t stand his ass

WOW. I think casting him would actually work.
And I agree with YYYY about not understanding women who change religions just to match their husbands’. Actually, I do understand part of it, which is that women are in both subtle and not-so-subtle ways trained since childhood to put their own beliefs second, I mean, changing your surname when you marry is still taken as a must-do in most societies. IMO, dropping your name is not something you want to do for personal reasons (i.e., you hate how your original last name sounds in the first place, etc.), most women I know who do it, no matter how they rationalize it to themselves, end up admitting that it was family/social pressure and being afraid of being seen as “feminazi” or a ballbuster. I didn’t change my name btw and my husband didn’t take it as a personal afront/thinks no less of me as his wife for it.
whew, that was much :D

Women who do that are those who have no personality or self identity. I will not change religions or looks for my boyfriend.

That is very good casting.
All I say, you should convert if that is what you want. No one is putting a gun to her head.

i looooooooooooooove Queen. if you have ever seen their Wembly show you will know what a truly kickass rock band is.
Sasch i bet would do a good job. depp would too, but i’m so used to seeing the luscious Johnny Depp do everything great it would be really interesting to see Sascha do something besides comedy. i bet he’;ll do a good job if he does get this role.

This is a good casting choice, Sacha looks just like Mercury, I hope he does the role justice. Also I heard his girlfriend was pregnant, any confirmation to the rumor?

How did this thread turn into what religion she is changing too? It is reported that she is fascinated by his religion and because she has no faith of her own she wanted to learn about his. I don’t think that sounds like pressure from anyone. Anywho…I love these two together and I hope he is cast as Freddy M. I think he would do a great job. Freddy M rocked.

I heard his girlfriend was pregnant too. Do people ever get married first anymore in hollyweird.

I really think he would do a good job with this role. He is certainly a dead ringer in the looks department. Some comic actors and actresses can cross over into dramatic roles and do a good job. I guess we will have to see if he gets the role, but I hope he does well.
