Elton John Wants Internet Shut Down

image

Elton John wants the internet shut down because it is destroying music.

The 'Candle in the Wind' singer believes cyberspace is stifling creativity
and lowering the standards of popular music.

He told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "The internet has stopped people from
going out and being with each other from creating stuff
.

"Instead people sit at home and make their own records, which doesn't bode
well for long-term artistic vision.

"Hopefully the next movement in music will tear down the internet. It would
be great to see the internet shut down for five years and see what sort of
art is produced over that span. I'm sure, as far as music goes, it would be
much more interesting than it is today."

Despite describing himself as a "technophobe", Elton has previously used the
internet to his own advantage.

His 60th birthday concert at New York's Madison Square Garden in March this
year was streamed live over the web.

Elton has also made his entire back catalogue available for digital
download.

However, he remains convinced the internet is responsible for slipping
standards in the music world.

He said: "In the early 70s there were at least ten albums released every
week that were fantastic. Now you're lucky to find ten albums a year of that
quality."

What a hypocritical idiot. How can he make stuff do download over the internet, and then become all dictator? Ugh, i HATE Elton John. Never could stand him, never will.

Shitney Beers

I hate it when celebs start thinking their God and can dictate everyone and even how far technology should go. Fuck this hypocritical cow’s ass.

I don’t think it’s the internet lowering standards it’s the musicians. The internet is there for all resources not only to “lower” the standards of artists. And why do they need the internet to make an album anyways? Oh well maybe avril lavigne does to search out other songs and lyrics and then claim she never heard them before. Or whoever else heard the songs.

You know I love that little queen.I dont really agree with taking down the internet (its my life), but he does have a point the quality of things coming out know is pretty bad. In fact hes pretty much spot on about only 10 albums a year are actually great somehow.
Hes a grouchy old queen give him a break!

Like that will ever happen. Dumb fool.

In other news, Elton John claims the world is flat, and the moon landing was a hoax.

The internet has become useful for music BECAUSE the narrow visioned record companies refuse to produce untapped talent out here. Record companies used to take risks. Now they only want to put out recycled crap. Adults (young and old) aren’t feelin’the rap scene, Hanna Montana, Avril or Britney. The only way new music makers and lovers can hear each other is through the only medium available. The blessed internet. The music to come out in the next 5 years is going to be diverse and fantastic. I can’t wait! The young people taking the risks promoting and producing over the internet will get their financial rewards as well. Elton, you old cow, who are you to define what constitutes music and creativity to young people in these times? Piss off!

“lowering the standards of popular music”

yeh, like pop music has such high standards and criteria *eye roll*

Hey Elton, I see your point.

I guess that because you haven’t had a hit in 20 years then the Inkernets are to blame for that too.

Idiot.  Get back to bungholing.

“He said: “In the early 70s there were at least ten albums released every week that were fantastic. Now you’re lucky to find ten albums a year of that
quality.”“”

So in the 70’s you would get 10 great albums released by a music label that were great.  Now you get albums released by the same publisher that aren’t as good.  Wouldn’t that be the fault of the publisher for not picking talent or selecting bands that all sound the same.

“He told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “The internet has stopped people from going out and being with each other from creating stuff.”

So has drugs, video games, school, boyfriends, girlfriends, VHS, DVD’s.  Lets ban them all because it isn’t the fault of the user.

““Instead people sit at home and make their own records, which doesn’t bode well for long-term artistic vision.”

Why because it isn’t sponsored by a music label?  Perhaps the labels should pick some new talent or pick a new direction instead of playing the same old stuff.  The net doesn’t bode well for publishers who rest on their laurels.

““Hopefully the next movement in music will tear down the internet. It would be great to see the internet shut down for five years and see what sort of art is produced over that span. I’m sure, as far as music goes, it would be much more interesting than it is today.”“

Yep, lets shut down a billion(s) dollar a year business.  Lets shutdown communications to various parts of the world.  Remember “Tiananmen square”; the world found out by the net.

I could go on; but what is the point.

and overcharging for crap cds, concerts, movies, etc that have maybe ONE decent song, scene, etc in them are helping??? LMFAO elton, just go to hell…OOOPS you’re already there or you wouldn’t be bitching so much.

Why don’t we lock Elton John in a room without publicity and see if he produces a good album for the first time since 1972.
