Janet Jackson's lover has blamed record bosses for her new album being a
flop.

Music producer Jermaine Dupri has threatened to resign as president of
Virgin Records' urban division because he claims label chairman Jason Flom
has failed to promote Janet's LP '20 Y.O.'.

A source revealed to the New York Daily News newspaper: "Jermaine blames
Virgin for not getting the album enough airplay and not working it."

Jermaine is desperate to boost record sales and is trying to persuade Mariah
Carey to record a duet with Janet on a track that would be added to a new
version of the disc.

It is estimated that there are still 200,000 unsold copies of the first
batch.

A source close to Flom has hit back at Jermaine's claims, saying: "Jason
wants the CD to be a hit as much as anyone. But Janet just didn't have the
goods."

Sales of '20 Y.O.' dropped by 74 per cent in the second week of its release
and it fell from number two to number nine on the Nielsen SoundScan chart.

Jermaine was also furious with the way Virgin record bosses handled Janet's
last album, 'Damita Jo'.

He fumed: "They just didn't push the project."



Janet won the "Ultimate Trendsetter Icon" Award at the 2006 Hollywood Life Movieline Style Awards (10/15/06).

I agree with dupri on this one. I haven’t seen janets new album advirtised anywhere, really. However, i think if it were actually a good album then the execs would have pushed it out there. I have a strong feeling that this album simply has no good music on it. If janet needs $ she could go just make a porn, the brothers will go out and buy that! LOL:)

Umm, I’ll take a shot in the dark and say maybe the record bombed was cuz Janet is and WAS done a loooong time ago!

The only thing i agree with is that they really didn’t advertise the album at all. I can honestly say that i have never seen the album cover, or hardely heard any songs from it. But then again, she makes the exact same music everytime a album comes out, so it’s nothing new. I don’t know about everybody else, but when i hear the name janet jackson, i think of madonna, “damn, they’re still making music?!”

What’s frick’n sad is that I’ve heard more buzz for K-fed’s peice of crap album than hers.  So I don’t think they did advertise as they should have.  It doesn’t matter though, because Janet sucks.  Her songs are boring and she can’t sing worth a shit.  Lucky for her past career her last name was Jackson.

I love Janet Jackson, but the songs that i’ve heard from her tanks. She might be losing her edge no and then to a lot of aging singers.

I have not seen any advertising for this CD. Any good business person knows you have to spend money to make money, JD. Advertise the CD. I can’t comment on the CD itself because I have not heard even 1 song off of it, but I can say this, most of her music sounds almost exactly the same. Not too many people seem to be into her music anymore. Maybe it is time for her to get out of this area of showbiz and move on to something else.

Glad it flopped.  The less that crappy music sells, the better.

They leaked half the album to the public in 6 days. The album sucks and thanks to the leaks/free advetising the consumer got the picture.

No, you idiots got it all wrong!! Janet is an excellent singer and a talented artist. She may be older but that gives no one the fuckin right to hate on her. What her record label is doing is not new . . .especially to an African American woman. Toni Braxton did not have it any easier and ended up having to leave her label just so she can exercise the same frickin rights as other artists are granted. For those of you who want to slam Janet as a vocal artist clean the fuckin wax out of your ears!! Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Brooke Hogan, and Jessica Simpson are big packages of BULL SHIT walking around calling themselves music artists. What’s worst is that you all are ready to accept the mucus they call music and reject Janet’s talented creations! Her record label is out to bring her down and Jermaine is right for calling them on that. As a producer and an artist he can easily detect the difference and knows right away that something’s up.
