Proactiv is one the worst over the counter acne meds. It worked for me temporarily but then I started breaking out again.

I don’t know why, but I think she is sooo pretty. Proactiv didn’t do anything for me, either.

I didn’t buy Proactiv because I had a friend that tried it and it actually aggravated her acne.
I have tried seemingly every prescription and OTC acne med out there. Personally, the prescription med Solodyne is the only thing that’s worked on my super-duper stubborn acne. It’s over $500 for a month’s supply so you really need to have insurance. It only costs me $25 a month.

god, tanning and facial masks make my skin good. but you need to moisturize a lot for that.

I use pro active and it’s been working really good for me… I know some other people who have used it and its work…i guess it depends on you and if you use it correctly and all the time ...and if it aggravates your skin your suppose to use it less..buh some stuff works for some people some dont

Stuff irritates my skin like crazy. Makes me break out even more.
Rumour has it that Jess used Accutane to clear her skin.

I used it for years, and all my towel and sheets have bleached out from it and my skin is looking dry and old. I have since changed to just a cleanser and a day/night cream and my skin is better. A skin care specialist told me my skin was really dry from using it and that ages your skin. Paying her 3 million is not going to make people buy it, maybe they should decrease the price instead.

This might sound off, but try Principal Secret skin care by Victoria Principal. This stuff is awesome, it basiclly makes your skin great no matter what kind of skin you have. I never get pimples as long as I take care of my skin with this stuff. Never again do I get those huge ones that get way under the skin. Also never wash your face with soap. Thats what helps to promote the acne, it clogs the pores.

i’ve been using proactiv for almost 2 years now and it works wonders. my skin is SO much better now- when is see old pictures of me i’m like my GOD! i use these oxy face pads before i use proactiv cause the oxy removes all the oil, and then i use the renewing cleanser which exfoliates and it is the best thing i’ve ever used, and that’s including prescription creams and antibiotics.
p.s. i have black sheets and pillow cases and they are still solid black… even after almost 2 years. so idk what “yourmom” a few comments above is doing wrong.

If you change your diet to wholesome foods—lots of fruits and vegetables, drink lots of liquids and exercise regularly—you don’t need any acne medication

brittany bitch - I have to disagree with you benzoyl peroxide bleaches! trust me…
It certainly bleaches the hell out of my white sheets!

Proactiv is a total rip-off. I’m not saying that it’s ineffective, but the active ingredients are benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid which are VERY old school, been around since the 70’s and maybe earlier, and you can get them for much cheaper in drugstore products.
Nonnie, that’s absolutely not true. Some people have acne regardless of how healthy their diet is. Just because you ate well and didn’t have acne doesn’t mean there’s a link between the two. Take a logic class and enlighten yourself.
Benzoyl Peroxide DEFINITELY bleaches !

mariianne, celeb_observer- i’ve had benzoyl peroxide and salycylic acid prescribed to me by my doctor w. antibiotics and that dried out my skin badly which actually made the acne worse. proactiv is just that- a proactive approach. the peroxide in it is a very small amount- 2% i think, and so it works gradually and doesn’t kill your skin while it works. it really just depends on your skin type. and it also depends on how you’re using the proactiv too because i don’t use the whole kit anymore. i hated the toner- all i use is the renewing cleanser every day and night and i use the refining mask as a spot treatment before i go to bed and i use a little before i put my make up on. maybe that’s why it never messes up my sheets or clothes because i don’t use the cream- but there is still peroxide in the cleanser.
and i don’t think it’s a huge rip off either. i buy the refining mask and daily oil control whenever i need it (and it lasts a LONG time so i don’t mind spending a lot on it) and the renewing cleanser, for an 8 ounce bottle lasts 2 months. that’s using twice a day. it’s just under 20 bucks for it, which is 10 dollars a month and anything otc like neutrogena is just under 10 bucks. so really if it works for you then it’s not that expensive if you break it down that way.

To celeb-observer—logic tells me you are not open to a healthy life style of eating well or excercise.
The point I was trying to make is that most people who buy all this expensive acne medications etc. probably need to make some changes in their lifestyle. Enlighten yourself and check with a dermatologist, physician or dietician.

rom, I only used it at night not twice a day like they tell you to do. So maybe thats why my sheets are bleached by the stuff. My point is that if it bleachs my sheets, imagine the damage its really doing to your skin long term. I’m not saying it didn’t get rid of my adult acne, it did. But I used it a long time and now my skin is dry and old looking. I don’t really care if you defend this product, just wanted to warn people about the long term effect.

To Mariianne—I am impressed with all the information you sent me—thanks. Believe I said ‘most people’ when I mentioned previously that diet and exercise played a main part in ‘most people’ having acne problems. Seeing a physician—dermatologist should be on the top of the list for severe acne problems—no one should be diagnosing their own prognosis and buying expensive medications with out knowing what affect they will have on their skin and bodies. I am not criticizing any one who is a vegetarian—glad your diet is working for you.

Nonnie, nice try attempting to cover up your original absurd statement:
“If you change your diet to wholesome foods—lots of fruits and vegetables, drink lots of liquids and exercise regularly—you don’t need any acne medication”
As Mariianne correctly stated, bad diet is not the primary cause of acne. I pointed out your flawed logic ... and then you claimed that I don’t eat well or get enough exercise. That’s another logical fallacy, I’ll let you figure out which one. Honestly, take a logic class. You will learn a lot.

To celeb-observer—seems like I have struck a delicate cord with you in mentioning diet and or exercise at all—even though my first statement was extreme and should have stated “most people”—my error but I stated that you did not seem open to a good diet or exercise as an option—not that you did not eat well. I am not going to argue with in regard to taking a logic class since I am the only person in this thread that has even mentioned a healthy lifestyle speaks for itself. Guess it comes from me being a nurse. Your welcome, Mariianne, sounds like to have an open mind.

Wow, touchy, touchy people! Chill the f out! Nutrition can help for some people but not for others, some people just have problem skin. It can be hereditary or hormones, which obviously are not controlled with diet. I eat well and exercise, but have acne problems. I use ProActiv, and it is the only thing that works for me. I sound like a commercial, but it really did work for me. It is pretty expensive, but worth it and I have used it for about 3 years and my skin does not look old. You have to moisturize every day. BTW, Brit endorsed Proactiv? I can’t see how that would help the product sell. She needs to go back on it in a big way!

I say go to the Dermatologist. Proactiv does not work for everyone. Some people need stronger medications.
