Nicole Richie is an "emotional dresser".

The 30-year-old designer claims she only ever wears what she feels comfortable in and that is dictated by how happy or sad she is on any given day.

She said: "What I wear depends on my mood. I don't plan outfits - I'm an emotional dresser. If I'm not confident or comfortable in what I'm wearing then you can see it all over my face.

"As far as the clothing goes, I take my cue from the 1960s and 70s when there were no rules - you could mix any fabrics, colors or prints."

However, mood is not the only thing Nicole finds she has to consider when she dresses; her diminutive stature is also troublesome.

She told Britain's Elle magazine: "I'm 5ft 1in, so it's not as easy as just seeing something on a mannequin or a model and thinking, 'That's going to be cute on me.' I have to try things on to see how they fit on my body.

"That's why I'm not a big online shopper - I like to touch the clothes, feel the fabric and try them on."
