Nicole Richie is launching a campaign to save America's lampposts from dog pee.

The 'Simple Life' star is promoting Swedish inventor Lennart Jarlerbro's dog urinals which are tied to street lights, preventing them from being eroded by the animals' urine.

Nicole - who is expecting her first child in January - said: "This invention is just so clever. It's a cute rubber cup attached to the post and a hose that pipes urine into the gutter."

Jarlerbro, who revealed his designs earlier this month, came up with the idea after getting annoyed at seeing lampposts prematurely corroded.

He said: "The average lamppost has a lifespan of 30 years but my invention could add a further 15 years."

Meanwhile, Nicole and her fiancé Joel Madden have started their own children's charity.

The 26-year-old star and the Good Charlotte frontman have set up the Richie Madden Children's Foundation for mothers in need.

Next month, the charity is set to donate 100 'Mom-to-Be kits' to the Los Angeles Free Clinic.



Meanwhile Lionel Richie, 'The Simple Life' star's father, has confirmed Nicole and her fiancé Joel Madden are busily preparing for the arrival of their son.

The singer told America's OK! magazine: "Nicole is having a boy. She even has a few names picked out."

The baby, Nicole and Joel's first child together, is due on New Year's Eve.

The couple hosted a 'The Wizard of Oz' themed baby shower on Sunday, where most of the guests, including Paris Hilton, brought blue boy-themed gifts.



Now the real trick is getting pets to use the toilet.

That’s stupid maybe if the owners would stop letting their animals piss and shit in places that they shouldn’t you wouldn’t have this problem.

I agree….I have a dog, and I NEVER let her pee in places like outdoor malls, etc…..just gross.

Maybe this is off topic a bit, but the baby thing makes me wonder again about how Peter Michael Escovedo III (her biological dad) and the famous Escovedo family (Sheila E., etc) would want to or be allowed to be involved, if at all. If I were Sheila E., I’d really want to have a relationship with my niece and especially now, since Nicole will have a baby. I wonder if Nicole even has a relationship with Peter Michael or Sheila E. Has anyone heard, just out of curiosity? Thx!
