I virtually ran directly into her accidently at the airport in Hartford CT right after the Olympics when she won her medal. I immediately recognized her and started to say something and she took off like a scared deer. She was with Victor Petranko (another medalist) and his wife. She was about as big as pencil then.

Haylie, you must be a very young idiot. Can you read? She won the Olympic gold medal in 1994 for women’s figure skating. If you think she looks “weird” then maybe, just maybe, people did thier hair diffrently in 1994. DUH.

Im not into skating but I definitly remember her - and big deal she got a DUI - a lot of people do.
She looks cute - but you can definitly tell shes tryin a lil too hard.

She’s had a really sad life and a lot of hard times. I’m glad she’s doing well now. She is a beautiful skater, even if she can’t do the triples anymore.

I’m sorry.. the 90’s were rough on that girl. Why can’t skaters have cute outfits? Like Prada or even Isaac Mizarahi could whip up a few looks for the sport and breathe some fashion life into it.

She is from the Ukraine. It was one of the former republics of the Soviet Union. They were a country for only 3 years when she won. She lost both of her parents and was living in a close relative and very poor when she won. Her training was in sub-standard facilaties using sub-standard training regiments but she overcame all the advercity in her life to beat the rich spoiled Western and Russian girls to win. This is why people liked her. Not for freakin’ hair or (un)stylish clothes. But because she rose up from the nowhere under horrific circumstances to give an amazing performance at the Olympics.
