Open Letter To Scott Messick Of Media Mayhem Corp.

Hard working internet publishers BEWARE of Scott Messick and Media Mayhem Corp. Websites such as Horror News, Futurismic, and Girls Ask Guys have all stepped forward to expose Messick and Media Mayhem for non-payment. And now Hollywood Rag is being added to the list as a victim of extended non-payment $$$$ and empty promises for 2 years by the President of Media Mayhem Corp. Scott Messick. Back in November I emailed Scott inquiring about partial payments that were discussed wayyyyy back in 2009. He apologized for the delay and claimed to "have had some issues with the AR and the timely collection of this campaign." After sending another email about when a check would be sent he replied: "I hope you are well. The check is going out either tomorrow on Tuesday, I will let you know for sure." Six days later I emailed him AGAIN and he wrote this back on December 8: "I have a check going out tomorrow."



NO CHECK EVER ARRIVED. After doing an internet search for "Media Mayhem scam" recently I was surprised to see several websites posting their horrible experiences of running ads and then not getting paid and being told checks would arrive when they clearly were NEVER sent. If anything there's PAYPAL. So then, if they are still in business --- what is happening with the money that's supposed to be paying publishers? Even this one webmaster claims to be owed around $15,000!!!!!

One thing I can say - after being dissed again with "the check's on the way" line I emailed Scott another time and his auto reply email stated that he was out of the office for the rest of December but would be "checking" emails every few days. My hunch is they are paying some publishers while skimping on the "smaller guys" possibly.

Girls Ask Guys Blog had this to say about their money owed (similar to our case):

We have been very patient in terms of payments with Media Mayhem. Even though the payment terms was 90 days, we have not received the payments for more than a year now. To receive payments for the campaigns Media Mayhem was able to secure, we have sent countless emails, left voice mails, etc. for more than nine months. First Scott Messick told us that the advertisers had not paid Media Mayhem because they were working together to resolve a reporting discrepancy. After about 6 months we requested to talk to advertisers directly to request our payment at which point we were told by Scott Messick that advertisers did now pay but there are other discrepancies. Our outstanding balance is about $3,700 for Media Mayhem and Media Mayhem was paid by advertisers months and months ago according to Scott Messick.

At the 1 year mark with no visible progress and waning communication (all of which was filled with false statements and broken promises) we were finally sent a check for only 15% of the total amount owed, which we took it as in good faith and told Scott Messick that we can have a payment plan since it sounds like they are in financial trouble. However we quickly found out that the check bounced and we had to pay bounced check fee.

Hollywood Rag is also a victim of non-payment of ads from summer of 2008- early 2009 and has been chasing payments ever since. Scott Messick has made many empty promises and he's been giving the same lines to other publishers as well. A check in the mail should means it's already been sent. How many times can you pull that one and just never get payment?!?!?!
