Paris Hilton has been officially charged with felony possession of a controlled substance following her arrest in Las Vegas on Friday night August 27, 2010.

The socialite and her boyfriend Cy Waits were driving along Sin City's famous strip when their car was pulled over by police, with officers alleging they smelled marijuana smoke coming from the vehicle.

Waits was arrested on suspicion of DUI and Hilton was later detained for alleged cocaine possession, after a bag of white powder fell out of her purse in front of a police officer as she pulled out a tube of lip balm.

According to the police report, the hotel heiress claimed she had borrowed the handbag from a friend and believed the white substance to be "gum".

Hilton is now facing up to four years in prison and a $5,000 fine after prosecutors in Clark County, Nevada charged her with felony possession of a controlled substance.

The socialite will return to Las Vegas on October 27, 2010 for arraignment.

Too Bad she didn't have the option of bringing "her purse" with her to take a whiz while the cop held her bag. And damn that lip gloss for not concealing that white bag of gum!
