Paris Hilton is to make her musical movie debut in a futuristic
rock-opera-horror.
The hotel heiress has joined the cast of 'Repo! The Genetic Opera', a
thriller set in 2056 about an organ failure epidemic that forces people to
buy expensive genetically modified organs from the evil biotech company
Geneco.
Co-producer Carl Mazzocone said: "We saw many actresses for the role, but
Paris sang better than all of them."
Paris, 26, will play Heather Sweet, the daughter of the movie's villain,
Genco owner Rottismo Largo.
Director Darren Lynn Bousman - who directed the last two installments of the
'Saw' horror series - explained the premise of the movie, saying: "The idea
is that everybody is buying up organs, and they cannot afford to pay for
these organs. Thus, legalized organ repo-men come into the picture. Murder
becomes sanctioned by law. So, if you buy a heart and can't afford it,
someone can burst through the door and take your heart out and they don't
get in trouble for it."
'Romeo and Juliet' actor Paul Sorvino has been cast as Largo, while 'Spy
Kids' star Alexa Vega will play Shilo, the daughter of repo-man Nathan.
The film - which is based on the play by Terrence Zdunich and Darren Smith -
is due to start shooting in Toronto, Canada, in September.
It is scheduled for release in 2009.
