I personally don’t think she has anything to worry about. I have seen a whole lot better. Maybe if you learned to speak english better people may take you seriously.

What is wrong with you people???? Penelope happens to be a very intelligent woman, a great actress, and a very accomplished individual. She started acting when very young and has remained not only commited to her craft but has always led a very simple, uncomplicated life. She speaks 4 languages (French, Spanish, Italian and English) and was one of the top dancers at one of the most prestigious ballet companies in Spain. She’s a very brave girl with great brains. So what if she’s wary of being labelled the “sexy hispanic”? If I were an actress, I would be worried about that too - not everyone wants to be validated on looks alone you know. And babycakes, how many languages do YOU speak well? Huh? Sometimes people really surprise me…

Oh, and one more thing - Penelope has been “taken seriously” by her peers for a very long time now. She has received a large number of accolades not only in her native Spain but also from prestigious boards such as the Cannes and Venice film festivals, among others. She’s also Pedro Almodovar’s new muse and a life-long friend of Javier Bardem. You don’t get to be there unless you have some real talent to offer. And I, like colostomy, think she’s pretty hot too… only her beauty is far from conventional and has more to do with brains and confidence than T&A.

toonces, the bigot comments about the English speaking most probably come from ppl who feel threated by successful individuals who actually CAN speak several languages… And you’re right - those types of comments are as low as homophobic or racist ones.

what a bunch of xenophobes. She can speak english, but her accent is what gets on her way. That’s why her acting sucks in american movies. She’s wonderful in Volver though, and she is hot. She may not be beautiful, but she’s curvy and hot.

sometimes I think she’s pretty- most of the time I don’t.  I’m sure she’s smart, and she has received many accolades for her acting….but I don’t think she’s sexy.
