What is here called “granny panties” and what is called “soccer mom pants” in other comments, are in fashion since about a year.
As Heidi Klum would say it: “High-waisted is in and low-waisted is out”. It started with the big belts which only looked decent on a dress or high-waisted skirt, then the trousers followed and now lingerie is made out of more fabric.
Last summer, even the bikinis looked like one-piece bathing suits: lots of bikini tops were made to look like an actual top rather than a bra..bikini bottoms often came with a skirt-like piece attached to it (you could say it replaced the short pareo that had been in fashion since 2001).
But apparently celebrities prefer to show as much skin as possible and stuck with the tiny two-piece bikinis, or one-piece bathing suits with cut-outs. Hence: no beach pictures of celebs ‘going back to the 50s’ this year.
Though the trend towards high-waisted garments started earlier, they were seen as a basic element in most of the major designer collections presented in 2007 for fall and winter of 2008.
