Source at Malawi’s Ministry Says Madonna wants to Adopt a Girl

Madonna is heading back to Malawi to adopt another child.

The singer - who adopted Malawi boy David Banda last year - is said to have
fallen for a three-year-old orphan named Grace after seeing video footage of
her playing at an African orphanage she helped fund.

A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Madonna saw a film of children
at a place called The Consol Home.

"She spotted a beautiful girl called Grace who lit the room with her smile,
and fell head over heels for her.

"Madonna kept saying, 'That girl has so much love in her. I want to help her
achieve her potential.' "

Madonna plans to travel to Malawi with her husband Guy Ritchie and her
children Lourdes, 10, Rocco, six, and 18-month-old David on Sunday
(04.15.07).

A source at Malawi's Ministry for Gender and Child Welfare claims Madonna,
48, intends to adopt again.

He said: "Madonna wants a girl this time. She loves Malawi a great deal and
wants to help another child."

Malawi officials are determined to avoid a repeat of the controversy caused
by Madonna's adoption of David, after the star was accused of using her
celebrity status to bypass laws and fast-track the process.

Authorities have asked that she meets with at least 10 other girls before
making her final decision. Meetings with two girls called Jessica and Mercy
have already been set up.

Madonna's representatives have denied the star is in Malawi to adopt again.
They insist she is only in the country to do charity work.

Publicist Liz Rosenberg said: "Madonna is indeed going to Africa to continue
her work with the Raising Malawi organization. She is overseeing the
building of a children's health care center.

"She is absolutely not adopting another baby. I know that has been a rumor
ever since she began the adoption process for her son David but it just
isn't true."

She's the next Angelina Jolie.

I used to be a BIG Madonna fan, in the 80’s- but now she is just trying to get on the celebrity ‘band wagon’.  Well her comment on ‘Amercian Bankstand” was: “To rule the world”.  Well I think her time is up- so sick of her, and her made up accent.  Remember when she spoke like a New Yorker??

I still would like to know whats wrong with all the boys and girls here in USA…Adopt one of them and you’ll really have some news…

They can use the adoption money as a tax write off if it’s done in another country.  But I still think it shows lack of caring about the people in the US who have made you famous by not helping them. Like we don’t have kids suffering here?

“I want to help her achieve her potential”

wow.  I’m overcome with the maternal warmth.

i’m sick of people saying they were big fans in the 80s.  you all sound like broken records.  as far as this being about getting attention and jumping on bandwagons, there are much EASIER ways and LESS PERMANENT ways of getting attention and this “bandwagon” has existed for at least 25 years.  mia farrow adopted foreign orphans YEARS ago…

there is nothing wrong with adopting kids from the US, but why see the borders??? a kid is a kid, no matter where he/she is from, right?  besides, the US orphans are mostly (99%) living in well-run foster homes with all of their shots and vaccinations.
Many, many of the foreign orphans won’t make it to the age of 10 without help because their orphanages are falling apart.

just my 2 cents

I agree that madonna was hotter back in the day but now she’s like a has been who stays in the light to keep shining. There are singers who are her age and still doing it but they’re not annoying. I personally don’t care where they adopt it just seems weird seeing adoption from only across the seas.

I for one, JamieNgo, have always thought Madonna sucked ass. BTW, comparing Mia Farrow and Madonna is like comparing apples to oranges. Madonna does not have an altruistic bone in her body.

American adoptions are inundated legislation that protects the adoption process and the minor childs right to privacy. And the parents have more rights when it comes to getting the child back. Madonna is, and has always been, a business woman.  If you want a lot of saint like publicity go for the international adoption. The big bonus is more bang for your marketing buck, with less chance of litigation down the road.

With international adoptions, it’s almost as if you are “guaranteed” to have a child at the end of the process. It’s sad, but unfortunately, it’s true

JamieNgo….your 2 cents was a great 2 cents.

Whenever foreign adoption comes up on this site, Angelina Jolie especially, I cannot say enough about how important it is.  It is important to adopt in your own country too but you cannot compare the US with these other countries.  It is just not the same.  You can rant about the poor and needy in countries like the US and Canada all you want and it still will never be the same.  Like I keep saying, the chances for a child making it to the age of 10 in these countries are very slim.  They have disease, poverty, drugs, rape, body mutilation, abandonment, malnutrition, HIV and a host of other things to overcome.  We have that in our countries as well but not to the extent that it is over there.  We are not even close.  So someone adopting them that can give them the life they deserve a chance at is evil and immoral?  It’s called compassion and empathy and obviously more people in this world need to practice it.

What makes Mia Farrow so special?  She is an actress that has done the same thing.  So for someone to say it is like comparing apples to oranges is just ridiculous.  You only have surface things to look at.  Unless you know Madonna personally then I think we can leave out the assumptions.  All you really have is the fact that they are both famous and adopted their children in foreign countries…period.

Unless you work for an Adoption Agency or work for a Foreign Adoption Agency you know nothing on this subject.  (Note that I did not say I knew anything either.  I only know what I research and read on this subject.)

And that’s my 2 cents.

shakezula - excellent comments!! I could not have said it better…
