Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton live in separate houses - because they cannot agree on décor.
The couple - who have a three-year-old son Billy - have a house each in London's plush Hampstead region which are next door to each other and linked by a single corridor.
Helena insists the couple's unique living arrangement is necessary so they don't bicker over interior design. The 'Fight Club' actress said: "His side is messier. My side is cutesy, like Beatrix Potter, which is fine for him to visit but there's no way he could live in it. He thinks his side is James Bond."
Billy's bedroom is in Tim's house but Helena insists he prefers to spend most of his time in her home because of her roaring fire.
Helena said: "I have the kitchen and a fire so we'll watch telly in my place.
"There is no normality in life. Having two houses means that we can get out of each other's hair - which, let's face it, we've both got a lot of."

Thats great! I think all couples should have a seperate space for themselves when they move into together. It works for me and my boyfriend - we have different tastes and have designated rooms that we decorate. Everyone needs some alone time to stay sane!

Smart thinking. No wonder they’re still together!

That is a great idea!!!!!!!!! I could not stand to live with either one of them. No wonder they have seperate homes. They look like the kind of people that can only be tolerated in small doses. That poor, poor little rich kid.

this is not that strange to me actually. my dad had a friend who had separate bedrooms for him and his wife. it wasn’t b/c they weren’t getting along, but that she was messy and he was a neat freak and this way they could each keep their own private space however they wanted it.
they slept in one or the other’s bed every night, but each had their own room to do whatever they wanted with it.
hell, whatever works to keep the marriage going. if that means having your own private space i say that pretty damn smart.

I still love Tim even though he’s not Mr. Attractive;-) heehee. I think it’s awesome that they do that. People NEED their space. Even though you love somebody to death they can grate on your nerves. Their habits etc. can drive you insane if they’re in your face (and vice versa) constantly. I’ve been married for 5 years and one of the keys is SPACE (as a few people already mentioned). If I could afford two houses, that’s how I’d to it man:-) Hell yeah!
I agree, whatever makes the marriage work:-)

I didn’n know Helena is Tim’s wife! I loooove both of them. A wonderful director (love all of his works and his special actor my Johnny Depp!) and an amazing actress. Good match and a very smart idea to live this way. And a good guid for other Hollywood couples. I hope their marriage last for ever.

Oh man how I’d love more space. I love my BF but I moved from my 800 sq ft apartment into the 950 sq ft condo we have together and all I can say is, I can’t wait till we move someplace bigger. I’m not the neatest person in the world, but he leaves beer bottles, half empty coffee mugs, water bottles and bowls of pistachio shells all over and it just kills me!
And yeah, my parents have had separate rooms since my sister and I moved out for good. Seems to keep them saner!
